I have never heard of Professional Networking Strategies nor am I totally convinced it is necessary. I understand the purpose of LinkedIn and it seems convenient especially when the future employer looks for writing examples. However, I do not think it is necessary. There is nothing wrong with a paper copy, but I was also raised in the country where life is simple and people around here like to stay away from the computers because they do not trust them and they cause more trouble than good. Also my current employer has a folder with my name on it and everything I have every completed or had to turn in for the State. Including my resume.
It is good that you have a career that you are pleased with and there is no need for you to search for a new job and need to connect with employers. Therefore, Linkedin is probably not a good resource for you. I think you may have a valid point about professional network strategies and it's use. I do not know if the site has any advantages as well, however, I personally use the site with the hope of it leading me to some future connections. Maybe it is just a hope and a prayer.

Gaby,
I agree, some professions do not require online networking of any kind. As for myself, I believe online networking is extremely important. As a personal trainer I am constantly looking for new clients and the easiest way to get my name and message out there is through online sources.

I understand how you feel about LinkedIn not being completely necessary. I really wonder how many spaces I should display my information in. Paper copies are definitely necessary still, but I have had experience where a potential employer viewed my LinkedIn profile quickly after I submitted it. Now I keep my LinkedIn profile up to date no matter what.
