I love podcast and I think they can have a major impact in education. Personally I listen to The Point's podcast which is a collegiate ministry group where college students come to church on Tuesday for bible study. I live an hour away so when I am unable to make it I can catch up on podcast. I have never personally had a undergraduate college course that used podcast nor any other form of online lectures. Sure there would be PowerPoints but that was the extent of the online class. However, when I started the Master's in Kinesiology course almost every teacher so far has used some type of podcast/youtube video/Powerpoint with audio presentation that allowed me to replay the lecture over and over again. I love it!!!
I do believe there is a place for audio/video presentation through podcast or youtube in the college setting. I do not think it should necessarily replace a lecture setting in undergraduate but it would be a great supplement. It frees up time in the classroom to allow for in depth discussion, instead of hearing the lecture for the first time when you step foot in the class room. Obviously some will not listen to the lecture, but teachers are already facing that when they instruct students to read chapters before the next class period.
